The Energy of Your Elevator Pitch

Let’s call a spade a spade. Everyone knows exactly what you are up to when you spout off a practiced and rehearsed elevator speech. But more than what people know, is what they feel from this practiced pitch; dull, boring and “here we go again.”

Instead of thinking of this moment as an elevator pitch or 60-second commercial, why not try thinking of this as an energetic introduction?

This is your moment to speak with heart, soul and passion about who you are, how you serve, and why you do it all. And when it is scripted, polished and what you think is perfected, you have actually stripped away the pieces that will make you memorable.

Here are the 3 most common mistakes I have seen over the course of 20 years in business, networking and social interactions where an elevator pitch is expected.

 

Mistake #1 – You only have one introduction:

You only have one way that you know how to say who you are and what kind of business you own or career you are in when really you should have multiple ways that you can introduce yourself based off of what your main objective is.

For example – if you are at a networking event and you are there to meet new people to connect and collaborate with, your introduction should be a little different, you might emphasize the on the words connection, community, highlighting why you are truly there, vs. if you are the keynote speaker at the event, your introduction would be more powerful, showcasing you as an expert and authority in the topic you are about to speak on.

Solution – Set an intention before any type of event where you will be introducing yourself. Knowing who your audience is going to be is an integral piece to your success! When you can pinpoint exactly what you want to receive and give from your introduction, you will get the results you want. Do you want to be remembered? Do you want them to instantly ask you more questions? Referrals? Be clear, confident and flexible with how you say it and who you say it to.

 

Mistake #2 – You underestimate the power of 60 seconds:

60 seconds doesn’t sound like much, but it is plenty of time to make the impression that you want! In fact, experts suggest that it takes us just 7 seconds to develop an opinion and get an impression for who someone is and whether we trust them or not. Pay particular attention to the words that you are using. Words evoke images, jog memories, ultimately leaving people feeling emotions and emotions are what will evoke the action your audience will take with you.

Solution – Record and time yourself giving your introduction. What do you see about your body language, the expressions and emotions that you display, and when do you seem the most confident and fluent? Are there any particular words that you use often? Do they bring on a positive or resistant energy? Practice being in the right energy you want people to feel from you, that is going to take you much farther with them and earn their trust in the first 7 seconds.

 

Mistake #3 – You think that your introduction is your message:

Don’t mix the two up.

Your message has everything to do with your ideal clients and customers, what will captivate them and have them leaning in. This is what you share in your content for email and social media marketing. This is what makes people click, call and ultimately say yes to a purchase from you.

Your introduction has everything to do with you and your business and is what starts the spark of your ideal clients getting to know you, like you, and want to learn more about you!

Solution – Make a list of all of the key pain and struggle points that your ideal clients are experiencing. Create content from these to use in your marketing strategy.

When preparing your elevator pitch take a moment and think about if what you are saying would be under the category of Bio or Marketing Messages. Being clear in the category will keep you on track in your pitch!

Above all, when you show up in your elevator pitch with truth, integrity and a powerful determination to give value and serve, that energy is what people will remember.

A New Way “To-Do” Your Day

Over the last few weeks, I found myself staring at my to-do list and quite honestly I wasn’t feeling inspired by the items that were on it. I was actually overwhelmed by how much was on it, how much time I had, what was next, what was done, it just snowballed to the point I somehow hurt my back and could NOT WALK!

Luckily one of my clients is an amazing embodiment coach and she helped me use yoga to let go of the stress in my back and body. When I reached this back-breaking point, I decided that working like this just no longer works for me, serves me, or my clients. I made a conscious decision that I want to put my energy into what is calling to me. I want to be taking inspired ideas and putting them into aligned action. I want to have my days full of projects that  I “can’t not do”, because they excite me and ignite me.

So, I started testing and experimenting. Instead of looking at a “to-do list”, which is how business has been done for so long,

I decided “to do” this… No list! Just my intuition and the Universe guiding me to where my highest purpose is in that moment.

Here’s what has happened:

> My clients have been saying we are having some of our best calls ever…

> I have had some of my best ideas ever…

> In just a matter of a week, I feel more energized and less overwhelmed

> The results for myself and my clients are through the roof

So here’s my challenge to you- why not try it?

What would your life and business look like if you truly just followed what felt good, moment to moment? I get it. It can seem irresponsible right? How are you ever going to get anything done if you are just goofing off all day? What about the work? What about the doing?

This sounds ridiculous, right? And yet, how is the “hustle and grind” working for you now? Why not try saying buh-bye to the should’s and have to’s, and follow what feels good, light and easy for one day and see what happens? I know I really found it interesting that when I just took a few moments to feel into my heart, listen to my soul, what I truly wanted to do and felt called to do- was be a creator- aka WORK.

When I did it because I chose to and I was called to, I could physically and emotionally start to feel expansion happening. And that means growth! And to an entrepreneur growth is absolutely everything! I would love to have you join me in this “to do list revolution”.

3 Ways to Make Your Message Make a Difference

You might have heard me say this before, but the word mess is in message for a reason. It’s not meant to be perfect and polished.
It’s meant to be vulnerable and raw. Because that makes it real.
Your message, it’s meant to bring truthbumps, triggers and tears.
That’s what people are wanting more than ever.
A reason to keep reading. A reason to keep following.
Give them content that they can feel, and share from the heart, soul to soul. You have it within you, I know you do.

Here are 3 ways to make your message make a difference:

  • Stop overthinking, and self doubting. Make it messy and unfiltered. Don’t try to hide behind your perfectionism, instead, stand in and own your passion. It will raise you up and call your ideal client up. Most likely you have a lot of ideas, things you want to say, write about, and make an impact with. But if you keep those ideas to yourself, and then destroy them with your fear, your gifts cannot heal, guide, lead or inspire others. And that is what ideas are for, that is why they come to you, to be expressed!
  • Don’t overthink who is reading what you write or listening to what you have to say. People get way to wrapped up in likes, views, comments. I say, who cares? It’s not your job to sit and watch for watchers… It is your job to let the message come to you and through you, and trust that the right person will read it and be moved by it when they need it most. Let the Universe line up your ideal audience for you.
  • Always have some wrap up wisdom. Tell the reader where to go next. Don’t leave them hanging wondering what to do. Tell them to take some aligned action. Give them something they can feel and follow up on. If you’re going to get them fired up, give them the fuel to go on afterwards…Your message can truly get them to start changing immediately, so get them into inspired action immediately!

An Alignment Assignment for You

I live in the moment.

I’m not talking about not a fly by the seat of my pants, let’s get risky and frisky, moments.

I am talking about present moments, fully feeling what is calling to me, what feels good for me and what is most aligned for me moments. 

Because I know, when I do that, it’s best for me…
And that is not always easy for others in my life.

I sometimes don’t answer my phone and swipe my friends and family to voicemail.

I often don’t want to leave the comfort of my home and office, (no I am not an introvert), I just love what I have created for myself and love the energy of my own space.

My energy, and my emotions, that is what matters most.
And I have learned how to create boundaries around what drains me.

But this has not always been an easy task. And I hear this from my clients more than anything- How do I stop putting everyone else first?

Listen: having big boundaries, doesn’t make you a big bitch.
And when I realized that, it was truly a game changer.

Now, I no longer give my time, attention and focus to what I “should” do, or what others think I should do.

Because nothing is more important than my energy; my emotional frequency. And guess what? That’s when I am the best version of me.

And when I am the best version of me 

I show up with my clients with a fierce passion and channel creatively and soulfully.

I play with my kids and feel my heart overflow in each moment.


I enjoy a deep conversation with my husband, followed by a good glass of red wine and a dance in the kitchen.

When I make my energy, my feelings and my emotions the most important focus of the day, I have it all. My all.

Here is an alignment assignment for you-

I want you to give yourself the gift of 5 minutes today to write your heart out about your all.

What scenarios play out in your mind? What desires stir up in your soul?

Write down what having it all looks and feels like in detail.

Can you trust and believe that when you write it, you decide it?

This process amplifies the manifesting process because you put yourself instantly into the place where you have it all.

What if you did this process for one week? One month? One year?

How many of your dreams would become a part of your reality?

Are you willing to devote 5-10 minutes a day to find out?
I hope so.

What I most want you to feel in this, is that this assignment is not about the how… It is about you deciding why, declaring your all, and deleting the should. When you do that, the Universe will respond with your how…

I hear entrepreneurs say it all the time –

“I don’t know what my message is.”
And after digging into it with them on a deeper, energetic level, what always rises to the surface are these 2 things:
  1. What they really mean is that they don’t know how, or they don’t feel confident in their introduction. Most have been taught that their “message” is what they would say if they were standing in front of the room and had to give a 60-second “elevator pitch”. This is essentially where you introduce yourself and clearly state who you are, what services you provide and who you provide them for. (This can also be referred to as your 60-second commercial.) Please know, this is NOT your message. It’s your power title and intro. It is meant to make them lean in, and most certainly remember you, but it’s not your magnetizing marketing message(s).
  2. The second thing that most don’t realize is that “their message”- is really not their message at all, but is actually their ideal clients’ problems, pain and mess! When we start to dig in deeper, getting to the soul of their business, what they come to identify is that they really do know what their message is, they just don’t know how to put their skills, talents and gifts into the right magnetic language to attract clients!

And the even more amazing part? We start to uncover that there isn’t just one message, there are at least 10+ messages that they have to talk about and share in social media!

In my experience, the most powerful thing that you do for your business is get clear, confident and start OWNING your message!

My Lucky 7 To-Do List

I learned so much in 2018 about myself and how I want to do business.

 

One thing that I am certain of is that Q+A is one of my absolute favorite ways to serve my community! When I am asked a question, It allows me to tap into my intuitive gifts and fully be connected to my calling.

 

In coming to this realization, I want to bring weekly clarity to you!

 

This week’s blog is #AskAmber!

 

As I am inspired, I will share the questions that come to me and the inspirational insight that comes from the Universe!

 

This week’s question: “What should I be spending my time on each day?”

 

I get this most often from newer entrepreneurs who feel a little lost in what to do but know they need to be taking action. I took some time and thought back to my first year in business, and what I spent time on that was productive. I came up with 7 that every new entrepreneur, (and even us veterans), should have on their to-do list.

 

Here are my “Top 7 Daily To-Dos.”

 

Remember, this is based on what I do, what others that are successful do, and what the Universe suggested… But you get to pick what ones feel good for you!

 

  1. Start your day with mindcare.

This is normally referenced as mindset. I personally am just over that word. Because what I really feel we are all really searching for is mind power, mind control and to be #MINDSTRONG.

 

Mental clarity, focus, and insight are all key to daily success and getting the results you want. Mindset is not just a journaling routine. Mindcare is nurturing and nourishing your mind with positive thoughts and reinforcements! This is a huge topic all in itself, one I am going to be talking more about in the days to come, but if for right now you’re not sure how to get control of your thoughts, or what a mindset practice even includes, no worries, I’ve got you!

You can use a pendulum with it, roll a dice on it, or just intuitively be guided to one of the triangles. Let me know if you have questions or comments on this!

 

  1. Review the to-do!

 

When you know what you are going into, it is much easier to be prepared! Take a peek at your calendar as often as possible so there are no surprises. I like to check it at night, and a few times throughout the day. Working on multiple calendars? That can be tricky!

 

If you are finding it more difficult to manage multiple calendars (ie. paper, digital, multiple systems and planners), it might be time to go – ASAP- as simple as possible!

I also really love lists! It is such a good feeling to check items off! But having a massive list(s) can feel overwhelming. And overwhelm typically happens when we aren’t clear on where to start.

 

Instead, try putting everything on one master list, and pulling 3-5 things (no more than a post-it note) and having that be your daily list. It is so much more manageable and your confidence in yourself soars, knowing you got it all accomplished!

 

I update my master to-do list once a week, making sure to always put the items that didn’t get done the week before at the top.

 

  1. One hour only of administrative stuff –

 

Get it all cleaned up in one power hour!

 

Go through emails, desk, private messages, book your personal appointments, follow-up, research… Make this your time to get shit done!  These tasks tend to pull us in off and on throughout the day distracting us from doing the deeper work that matters!

 

Batching, in my experience, is best!

 

Procrastinating a certain task, call or action? Make it happen in this hour, and your mind and energy will thank you for it all day long!

 

  1. Create content –

 

I don’t think entrepreneurs realize how much creative writing and content there is in having a business! Each day, when the idea and energy is there, write your heart out!

 

Or video something to share with the world about you and/or your business.

 

The more consistent you put out content, the more that people will remember your name and will think of your services! Don’t overthink it!

 

Creative writing and content is a huge piece of having a service-based business. Less is not more when it comes to you sharing your message in an aligned way!

 

  1. Make a sales invitation!

 

Think of it this way- if you don’t ask, they cannot say yes! Making sales offers does not make you pushy! It allows you to serve “her”. On the other side of the sale is where the transformation and magic happen! When you sell because you truly want to serve, you can’t do it wrong!

 

Serve and Sell, Sister!

 

  1. Review your inspired marketing plan.

 

You need a strategy to bring that big dream to life!

 

That course, program, package, whatever you have been working on – an IMP will get it #SOULD out! Marketing is truly relationship building with your soul clients.

 

And there are lots of ways and lots of shiny objects out there that can get you confused and distracted.

  1. Is your check “energy” light on?

 

All throughout your day, ask yourself and feel into yourself – your energy – Are things in flow? What’s your overall light level? Are you tired? Bored? All of these tell you if you are heading in the right direction! Your energy is always the sign you are looking for! Your emotions are what should be leading the way. And remember, most importantly – when you look at your to-do list, you want it to feel like a can’t wait to do list! When you let your soulfire lead, there’s no doubting you are on the right path and you will be fired up to get into action!
